Bio

Dr. Merchant grew up in Virginia where he later attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine to receive his medical degree in 1977. He finished his surgical internship at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He then completed both his general surgery residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and his urology residency at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Merchant is board certified in urology by the American Board of Urology. He is an active member with the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the American College of Surgeons. In addition, he is an active member of the Richmond Academy of Medicine and the Medical Society of Virginia.

Dr. Merchant has special training in genitourinary prosthetic surgery and microvascular surgery. He has served as a Clinical Instructor of Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia.
